3 HEALTHY FOOD HACKS
Nutrition shouldn't be about deprivation. I'm strong believer that your diet should include ALL of the foods you enjoy whatever your goal may be. Here's 3 of my random healthy hacks that I use daily/weekly/monthly to ensure I meet my goals whilst still lovin' lyfe 2k17.
1. Every day: Arla Chocolate Protein Milk 50% Less Sugar.
Quite a specific hack but this guy is my 4pm friend. Post lunch when I need that sweet fix, I grab an Arla. First and foremost it tastes BLOODY delicious and nothing like a protein shake; the only thing I can liken it to is like coco pops cereal milk. Better yet, it's 225 calories per bottle and 27g of protein.
Make sure you go for the 50% less sugar version though - the other is over 100 calories more and they taste exactly the same.
P.s. This ain't sponsored, I just love them.
2. Every week: Meal prep your lunches.
This is a Sunday habit which I always try to stick to. If I'm busy on a Sunday, I'll make sure I do this on a Monday night after work. I'm not telling you to load your fridge with 20 plastic containers of food - I'm telling you that prepping your lunches between Monday-Friday will keep you on track (and save you lots of dollar.)
My meal prep usually consists of this:
- 5 portions of protein (30-40g each - eg. a pack of 5% fat beef mince)
- 3 packs of veggies (eg. a 3-pack of peppers, a punnet of mushrooms and a bag of spinach)
- 1 can of chopped tomatoes
- 5 portions of a carb source (eg. a bagel for each day or 500g sweet potato.
I'll then cook it all up, mix it in a big pan with some herbs and spices, and put it into 5 lunch boxes. DONE. Each portion comes to around 400 calories, 40g protein and never tastes boring. (If yours does taste boring, just add garlic and chilli, Garlic and chilli fix everything.)
3. Every month: Have a bloody takeaway.
No really. Having a takeaway is pretty social thing if your lifestyle is anything like mine. I'm sorry but I'm simply not going to sit there with tupperware whilst my friend order food - nor do I have to to still stay on track.
Rather than ordering from Dominoes or Chinese takeaways, go for Deliveroo so you can get something from a local restaurant and a better choice of meals with lower calorie options.
P.s. I totally order takeaways at least twice a month. Sorry not sorry.
